Thinking of going to university?

As a School Sixth Form we apply to University via the APPLY System linked to the UCAS website.

There are many universities with a wide variety of courses, the best solution to help you to decided is to look at the UCAS Website which contains a list of all universities and courses to fit your needs.

To assist with University Applications, opportunity will be given to 6.1 students to take part in the Higher Education Week. This will take place on during the week commencing 5 July 2010.


Important deadlines:  UCAS 2010 entry

15th October
Last date for applications for Oxford and Cambridge, or for veterinary science, veterinary medicine, medicine and dentistry, to be received at UCAS and be regarded as on-time.

15th January
Last date for applications from UK and EU residents for all other courses to be received at UCAS and to be guaranteed equal academic consideration.

7th March
Advisory date for Route B applications to reach UCAS.

24th March
Last date for Route B applications to be considered in 1st round of interviews. Those received at UCAS after this date will be considered as LATE and will receive a lower priority.

12th June
Last date for Route B applications.

30th June
Last date for the receipt of all applications for immediate consideration. Those received after this date will be held for Clearing.

6.1 students hoping to study medicine or dentistry will need to take an aptitude test before they make their UCAS choices for 2010 entry.

The new clinical aptitude test (UKcat) will affect those applying to a consortium of 24 Universities. The test will help Universities to choose between top candidates.

The test will be taken between July and September 2009.

Important dates for your diary:

  • May 2010 - If UCAS application made before 15 January 2010, you can expect a final decision from one of your choices
  • 30 June 2010 - Last date when UCAS will accept changes to your online application form
  • July 2010 - If you applied between 16 January and 30 June you can expect a final decision from one of your choices.

    MERCERS' Educational Grants
    MERCERS’ Educational Grants The Mercers’ Company Educational Trust Fund enables needy students to apply for grants for University study. Applications are made through the School and numerous students have received financial help since the School opened in 1991.

    What other options do I have?

    University isn't for everyone and many people get a full time job. For information on getting into full time employment visit our links page.

    Also as a School we get a number of companies and organisations who contact us seeking to recruit A level students. Contact Mr Howell for more information.

    You could also take a rest from school work and take a year out, for more information on this then visit the Year out guide website.
