Thomas Telford School employs a full time Director of Careers and Industry Links.
He is supported by a team of full time and part time Industrial Consultants, who are former members of business and industry, to enhance career preparation and work placement programmes. |
Student Entitlements to Careers Education are set out in a newly updated Careers Policy (copies available in the Careers Resource Centre).
A planned programme of Careers Education providing opportunities to develop and apply the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to make realistic career decisions.

A `drop-in' Careers Resource Centre with comprehensive and up-to-date information on opportunities in Education, Training and Employment.

An annual careers broadcast throughout the School to ensure that students are aware of their careers entitlement.
Work Placements
Work placements available with opportunities locally and in mainland Europe through partner schools in France and Germany.
All Sixth Form students given the opportunity to spend up to three weeks each year, either block or part-time, with employers from private and public sectors of industry, commerce and education.
Year 11 students, after GCSE examinations, have opportunity for a two week work placement as part of the Year 11 Post Examinations Opportunities Programme.
Support with career action planning, university applications and the preparation of effective curriculum vitae.

One of the features which distinguishes Thomas Telford School from other Schools is the quality of the partnership shared with industry.

Thomas Telford School students take part in the Engineering Education Scheme on an annual basis.
Recently, Sixth Form Technology students linked up with local companies Ricoh UK Products and GKN Sankey to develop engineering solutions to real life production problems. The students worked closely with engineers from the companies and both teams received Gold Crest Awards. These projects provide invaluable experience for students, giving them an insight into the world of work.
