 Review of 2007

Examination results in 2007 were once again outstanding with all the Year 11 students achieving top A*-C grades in English for the first time in the School’s history.  In fact, all the students achieved at least 11 GCSE passes at these top grades with 98% of them gaining two or more in Science and 96% in Maths.  This is the ninth year running that the Year 11 students have achieved a 100% pass rate against the Government’s target of 5+ A*-C passes.

This year, the A Level results produced an average points score of 402 which although slightly lower than last year, is still likely to be amongst the highest points scores for any comprehensive school in the country.

250th anniversary celebrations of the birth of the great, pioneering engineer Thomas Telford have taken place around the country and our students took part in a number of events.

In March, more that 100 students took part in a superb production of ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’.   This year, five of our Sixth Form Performing Arts students won places at prestigious ‘Fame’ schools to continue their studies.

It was a very successful year for sport with 32 teams winning titles at district, county, regional and national level and Thomas Telford was the first school to win both the Under 13 Boys and Girls ESFA Regional Football titles in the same season.  A number of students continued to compete at the highest levels, showing tremendous skill and commitment in their drive to become future Olympians.

Students organised and supported a range of fund raising events during the year through mufti days, special events and sponsored activities and, as a result, a number of charities have benefited.

Over 100 students have taken part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.  Sixteen Sixth Form students received sponsorship from HSBC and Mercers to take part in the Tall Ships Experience, some of whom sailed on the Dauntsey’s School ship.

More details of the year can be found in the Newsletter.
